Marketing & Communications Intern

Summary                                                 
Under the direction of the Director of Marketing & Communications, the Marketing & Communications Intern provides quality support with various department projects. The department is looking for a person with a passion to make a difference and share their marketing and communications talent.   This learning opportunity is for undergraduate or graduate students who are seeking experience and an internship learning opportunity. This unpaid internship learning opportunity may count toward academic credit.  The internship is to last for a 12-week period. Hours are flexible, 15-20 hours per week.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assist with the agency’s website and social media efforts.
  • Updates and maintains the LSS archive.
  • Researches and learns about LSS program needs as related to marketing and public relations.
  • Assists with the design and development of agency materials, including flyers and other promotional materials as needed.
  • Assists in writing and editing articles and working with outside vendors to design, print and mail publications.
  • Assists with the organization and distribution of LSS premium items.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Interest in the non-profit sector and a passion for human care services
  • Experience using Adobe Design Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator)
  • Experience using social media (particularly Facebook and Twitter)
  • Website and/or HTML experience a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • General knowledge of Marketing and Public Relations
  • Knowledge of computer applications such as MS Word
  • Willingness to travel on occasional state-wide day trips with the department
  • Relevant work experience a plus
  • Must submit 2-3 writing and design samples Must be willing to undergo background check and drug test    

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

Sophomore, Junior, Senior or Grad level student. Possible majors: Marketing, Advertising, Public Relations, Mass Communications, Journalism, or General Business Administration. Some general office experience is helpful.  

LANGUAGE SKILLS

 Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret information.   MATHEMATICAL SKILLS Basic mathematical skills. Ability to calculate figures and analyze information.  

REASONING ABILITY

Strong analytical and problem solving skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to organize and stay focused on work.  

COMPUTER/TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

 To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge and proficiency in the use of software applications including Adobe Design Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) and Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). The candidate should also have experience using social media (particularly Facebook and Twitter). Website and/or HTML experience is a plus. General familiarity with use of office equipment such as copiers, printers and scanners is a plus.

The incumbent of this position works in an air-conditioned, office environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.  

TRAVEL

Occasional travel to program sites with department staff may be involved. The intern is not required or expected to drive as part of the terms of the internship. Department staff will provide transportation.
