General Information
Volunteering provides public relations professionals
with opportunities to give back to their communities, the public
relations field and communications students. It is also a great
avenue for personal and professional development and a networking
forum. PRSA encourages all of its members to consider utilizing
their skills, experience and expertise by volunteering with PRSA.
PRSA
is always looking for volunteers and has a variety of opportunities
available to fit any schedule. Members can join a volunteer
committee that meets regularly or volunteer on case-by case or
event basis.
If you are interested in learning more about a volunteer committee
or would like to be involved in an upcoming event, please see
the list below and contact the specific committee chair in
your area of interest. He or she can provide you with volunteer
opportunities and additional information.
Please note, PRSA volunteers
must be chapter members. For information on becoming a chapter
member, please visit our Membership
Benefits page.
Community Service
Committee
This committee has enjoyed a strong history of success and
provides an excellent volunteer mechanism by either serving as a
committee member or volunteers at one of its POWER Lunch! sessions.
What's a POWER Lunch?
The Community Service Committee serves as a channel for members
to reach out to the community and affect change in the community
through volunteered strategic public relations counsel. This
outreach is conducted through our POWER Lunch! series, which
consists of one-hour self-moderated sessions (held quarterly over a
typical lunch hour) in which an assembled team of PRSA members and
members of the non-profit agency address identified public relations
needs and discuss strategies and tactics to meet those needs. The
results are pointed, intelligent and realistic solutions that a
non-profit agency can begin to immediately integrate into its
public/community relations program.
The sessions facilitate an open and free exchange of information
and ideas among agency staff and professional public relations
practitioners in order to arrive at creative, realistic and
implementable public/community relations strategies. These tools and
ideas serve to emPOWER the agencies to move their organizations
forward and achieve their public and community relations goals, and
to ultimately meet, if not exceed, their business and service
objectives.
Typically a one to two hour commitment, PRSA members can opt to
participate in as many, or as few, sessions as convenient for them
and all public relations backgrounds are welcome, particularly those
that fit a specific need to the agency.
Any established non-profit organization in the metro Milwaukee
area that has a public/community relations need, and the
infrastructure to organize and implement the strategies and tactics
provided in a POWER Lunch! session is eligible. Previous
organizations served include the Urban Ecology Center, PEARLs for
Teen Girls, Summit Educational Association and Milwaukee Achievers.
If you are interested in learning more about the committee, would
be interested in getting involved on the committee or volunteering
at one of our next sessions or have suggestions of local non-profit
agencies that could benefit from one of our POWER Lunch! sessions,
please contact Renee Kimberger, (262) 781-4445,

Hospitality Committee
The Hospitality Committee welcomes you to join us at registration
at the monthly program meetings. It is a great way to meet and talk
with other area public relations pros and match up names with faces.
Your commitment to this committee will involve only 45 minutes of
your time prior to the start of the meeting.
If you are interested in learning more about the committee, would
be interested in getting involved with the committee or volunteering
at one of our next meetings, please contact Jaime Buege, (262)

innercom
Newsletter Committee
Want to help the Southeast Wisconsin Chapter of PRSA keep up with
members' activities? Innercom... is published 10 times each year,
combining issues for November/December and July/August. The
newsletter is sent to the Chapter membership via an electronic
format, so readers receive the newsletter right in their inbox.
The newsletter contains information such as upcoming Chapter
events, new members, member news and provides updates from National
PRSA. Do you have a story idea or would you be interested in getting
involved in our committee? Interested participants should send any
news ideas or stories directly to the editors.

Media Relations Committee
The Media Relations Committee helps to "get the word out" about
the Southeastern Wisconsin Chapter of PRSA and its activities to our
local community. For example, we draft and distribute press releases
to the local media explaining who, what, where and when. We want to
make sure that those who are interested in attending our events are
aware of our activities as well as providing the local media with
information about the Chapter. The time commitment involved in this
committee is approximately 3 hours per month.
Do you have experience and enjoy working with the local media?
Why not join our committee? If you are interested in learning more
about the committee or would be interested in getting involved with
the committee, please contact Julie Gaier, (262) 820-3640,

Monthly Programs
Committee
The Programming Committee is responsible for developing and
implementing the Chapter's monthly programs. Coordinating a program
is a great way to meet members and take a visible role in the
Chapter. The committee will meet as needed, but chapter members
interested in helping to pick a topic and speakers and coordinate a
program should contact committee chairman Crystal McNeal, APR, (414)
937-6124,
crystal.mcneal@bcw.edu. Coordinating a program involves a time commitment of approximately
five hours.
Sponsorship Committee
Be part of one of the most dynamic committees in our Chapter.
The Sponsorship Committee garners financial and in-kind support from
area businesses and corporations to:
- provide top-notch speakers on cutting-edge topics for our
monthly programs.
- underwrite our Holiday Party.
- help fund the Paragon Awards banquet.
- fund attendance for Chapter luncheons by PRSSA members.
Help strengthen our Chapter by donating a little time to the
Sponsorship Committee. Join and make a difference! Contact Jeanne
Kessler at 414-524-5423 or
Jeanne.M.Kessler@jci.com.
Young Professionals
Committee
PRSA's Young Professionals is a dynamic group for PR
professionals with less than five years of experience in the field.
Working together, our committee develops and executes professional
development opportunities and networking/social events.
Want to get involved? Our committee welcomes motivated,
enthusiastic Young Professionals who would like to join in this
group for the next generation of PR executives. We are flexible with
the time commitment that you are able to make.
