Jagler to Review Changes and Challenges in Communicating for Businesses

Big changes are ahead for the business of journalism and how journalism covers business. This goes beyond corporate consolidations and includes new technologies and techniques being used to cover news.

Major organizations like the Associated Press, The New York Times, ProPublica and Oregon Public Broadcasting have turned to automation technology to churn out some of their more rote news stories, like quarterly earnings reports and sports game recaps. Will all journalism be carried out by robots and algorithms in the near future?

With more people cutting their landlines and opting for cell phones and VoIP calling, news organizations are having to change the way they conduct telephone polling.

The need to tell stories visually also means an increased use of infographics that can provide additional information and context to complex issues.

The implications for public relations professionals are just as important and will be examined by Steve Jagler at a special breakfast meeting on Wed., March 16.
