LGBTQ+ 101: Communicating Effectively with the LGBTQ+ Community

People who are unfamiliar with the LGBTQ+ communities are sometimes fearful of saying or writing the wrong thing to and about LGBTQ+ people. Too often, worried that they will accidentally offend, they are silenced. Alex Corona, Transgender Resource Coordinator at the Milwaukee LGBT Community Center, will share what they find offensive, why they dislike it and what would be a better way to communicate with them about the subject.

Alex is a Milwaukee native and has been involved with sexual health education and Trans activism in Chicago and Milwaukee for the past four years. She is a spokesperson for a statewide HIV awareness and prevention campaign called “HIV in Real Life” and can be seen on billboards and posters throughout the state. Alex has dedicated her life to helping the LGBTQ+ community and spreading the messages of proper sexual health education and trans equality for all.

Join us for this interactive presentation goes beyond basic terminology and gets to the heart of understanding LGBTQ+ identities and helps us learn respectful ways to communicate.
