PRSA Southeast Wisconsin Committee Outreach Committee

ABOUT US
The PRSA Southeast Wisconsin Community Outreach Committee represents the industry’s most experienced and engaged communications professionals who are dedicated to professional development, engaged with our community and committed to our nonprofit partners’ success.

MISSION
The PRSA Southeast Wisconsin Community Outreach Committee serves nonprofits in the Greater Milwaukee area with missions that align with our designated areas of focus, by utilizing professional experience to create communications that advance their missions and achieve results.

OVERVIEW
Utilizing members’ skills and knowledge across the spectrum of public relations, the committee will work with nonprofit executives and communication leaders to support organization’s goals and initiatives by providing communication counsel and support, creating strategic communication plans and assisting with implementation. Specifically, the committee members will support nonprofits with the following elements: media relations, stakeholder engagement, community outreach, leadership communications, marketing, advertising, internal communications, social media, events, and video. The committee will engage in planning, research, writing, and assist with implementation. All engagements will include development of a “nonprofit kit,” customized to meet specific needs of the organization.

BACKGROUND
Since 2015, the Community Outreach Committee has worked exclusively with Repairers of the Breach, Milwaukee’s only daytime warming shelter for the homeless, serving families, veterans and individuals. The Committee worked directly with the organization’s executive director and board members, and helped with a variety of projects including:

  • Frequent media pitching, resulting in ongoing coverage (especially during cold weather)
  • Redesign of their website
  • Social media management and consultation
  • Video production for general promotion and for their events
  • Guidance on development of collateral pieces
  • Visibility planning for executive director to enhance donor relations

The committee is excited to expand its footprint and impact in 2018, by serving multiple nonprofits with several initiatives.

Allison Kucek has served on the Community Service committee for three years. Alyssa Schoenwaelder

With a decade of copywriting, strategizing and design experience, Alyssa Schoenwaelder brings versatile marketing, PR and communications experience to the committee. Truth be told, Alyssa didn’t like to write much as a kid. Because writing meant spelling, and she was told you can’t be creative when it comes to spelling. Well isn’t that a bunch of bologna? Or wait, is that baloney? Either way, she’s come a long way since then. She recently left her full-time agency gig to stay busy freelancing, volunteering and instilling a love of creativity (and spelling) in her young son. You can reach her at alyssa.coe@gmail.com.

Katrina Schwarz

Katrina Schwarz is currently involved in the community outreach committee with the PRSA Southeastern Wisconsin chapter and is also on the Board for Ad 2 Milwaukee and communications committee for the Wisconsin Breast Cancer Coalition. She works in marketing and communications at the National Fluid Power Association and has journalism internship experience in both the United States and Germany. She graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and a master’s degree in media studies. Outside of work and volunteering, she loves to travel and speaks several languages.
